“In my work I like to interpret the form of my subject by looking beneath the surface to bring out a sense of being to my sculpture.”
At the age of 20, Lincolnshire based sculptor Tom Beardwell has already gained acclaim both nationally and internationally for his bespoke hand crafted sculptures only 3 years after he began to sculpt for the first time. As a young sculptor his style is rapidly evolving, this provides an exciting portfolio that will continue grow over time. Having finished Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Tom will be studying a sculpture orientated special effects degree near London.
Initial Sculptures are produced in clay
Tom works in clay to produce his initial sculptures which he then moulds and casts them himself where ever possible. Originally starting by sculpting animals(particularly the local wildlife), he began developing his unique style in which he presents the subject. With his use of long, curving, distinct shapes Tom brings the work to life with a sense of fluidity and monumentality. He has recently been extending into sculpting the human form, this has been an exciting and challenging leap with more work expected on the horizon. In Tom’s words, “exploring the human form through sculpture has allowed me to express deeper meanings and emotion in my work than what I was able to with animals”.
Bodybuilders bronze torso
In recent times Tom has been working with bodybuilders to explore the desire of the perfect physique, taking this sought after form and developing it beyond what is naturally possible then presenting it as a bronze torso piece.
“My dream is to make a name for myself out of doing what I love. I will continue working towards this goal until my sculptures are sought after throughout the world.”
